Introducing Ardbeg 1975, 38 year old 'The Awakening'. A famed vintage, aged for 38 years in bourbon and sherry casks. 1975 was a turning point for Ardbeg, when they focused on the single malt market, and started laying down casks of sumptuous peaty single malt, ready to be bottled all these years later. A dram that is described as containing "everything Ardbeg has to offer".

Here are Dr Bill Lumsden, Head Distiller at Ardbegs thoughts: A real ‘CHAMELEON’ of an Ardbeg, this whisky changes and transforms as you drink it. It expresses astonishing intensity and vibrancy, as well as remarkable finesse.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose – Astonishingly deep, complex & pungent, with notes of smoked fish, soot, tar, fragrant heather peat moss, and some spicy toffee notes. There is always a background scent of antiseptic lozenges, along with a suggestion of paprika and smoked herbs. A splash of water releases some herbal notes, like fennel or oregano, along with a saltiness and some polished leather.

Palate – An extraordinary, vibrant mouthfeel, with an oiliness and an effervescence at the same time. The flavour is rich and intense, with sweet liquorice toffee, smoky barley, jasmine, lapsang souchong tea, peppermint, eucalyptus and myriad spices – clove, cinnamon, black pepper and cardamon among them. Bittersweet Seville orange follows, with hints of raisin or dates.

Finish – On the finish, more layers of smoke emerge, manifesting themselves as birch tar and soot with dry espresso.
