In contrast to the majority of Islay's whisky output, the core release from Bunnahabhain is unpeated. Matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks, the single malt has a rich, coastal character. Bottled at 46.3% and unchillfiltered.
When Bunnahabhain first opened in 1881 it was isolated from the rest of the island, and had to do all importing and exporting by boat via the distillery pier. It wasn't until 1960 that a single track road was built, allowing easier access for goods and workers. This maritime history is still key to the distillery's identity.
