This 12 year old Dalwhinnie was bottled in 2009 from spirit distilled in 1997. All clues indicate that it was matured in a sherry cask before it was bottled at cask strength.
A 1987 merger of two large whisky companies created United Distillers which would eventually become Diageo. The Manager's Dram series was the product of an in-house competition in which all 27 of United's distillery managers selected the finest casks for bottling through a process of blind nosing. These annual releases were only available to distillery employees, making the bottles that still exist highly collectable.
