A specially selected Royal Lochnagar, bottled to commemorate the day Queen Victoria visited in 1848 and issued the Royal Warrant for the distillery. Royal Lochnagar is nearby to Balmoral, the Royal Family's estate. Apparently the story goes that Queen Victoria was late for her tour, which caused the Distillery Manager to be a little grumpy. A batch is release annually, with 3000 bottles in each batch. This is the 2018 batch.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose – Deep and complex. Bosky and mossy, but with hedgerow flora and fruits (brambles, damson jam); sawn wood and minty-fresh pine resin; turned earth; behind this some deep toffee notes (treacle toffee?) and beyond that artist's turpentine, which keeps it fresh and balances the wood. Changes and develops continually. With water, varnish advances (artist’s studio). Some coffee grounds, toffee, warm polythene, baked apple tart (with a scorched crust). Overall, sweet and deep. With slightly more water a hint of soft rubber and a waft of dry sherry.

Palate – Smooth mouthfeel. Fresh wood notes. A hint of sweetness, drying quickly.
