We're excited to present Double Oak Rye from Sagamore Spirit in Maryland USA. Using a traditional American Rye mash-bill, Sagamore matures the spirit for 4-5 years in heavily charred American oak casks before re-racking for up to 18 months in casks that have been medium toasted and grooved on the inside to increase the surface area. This secondary maturation adds toasted oak and nutty notes to the traditional rye spice.
Maryland was once a hot bed of rye whisky production before the US government's farm subsidies and ethanol demands during world war 2 caused the local farmers to switch their production to corn. Sagamore spirit is intent on using their own Maryland produced rye, and bringing recognition back to Maryland as a premium Rye producing region.
