In 1874, Martin Wilkes Heron was working as a bartender in New Orleans. Taking inspiration from his customers, who complained of the harsh flavour of the whiskey of the time, he blended said whiskey with his own combination of fruits and spices to create an easy-drinking, 'comfortable' liqueur. A great sipping drink, over ice, and a fantastic ingredient for a whole host of cocktails.
