In 2005, 9 Danish friends thought it would be interesting to try their hand at whisky-making, despite having no knowledge or experience with it. Cobbling together a distillery and ingredients from what they could find locally, Stauning was founded in an old abattoire and began distilling in 2006. With locally farmed Barley and Rye, their own floor-maltings, and direct-fired small pot stills (in other words, a whisky nerd's dream), they have created a core range which has already gained critical acclaim. This single malt Rye incorporates a portion of malted barley and offers dark, roasty, fresh-rye-bread aromas, with a little peppery spice and oak mixing into dried fruit and an almost creamy feel on the palate, leading into a long and fruity finish.
