A smoky and characterful Lowland single malt from Annandale Distillery, released as part of the peated Man O'Sword range.
Distilled in 2017, this single cask whisky was matured in an STR French Burgundy cask, which has been shaved, toasted and re-charred to encourage greater interaction between spirit and oak. The result is a rich and expressive whisky that combines Annandale's peated spirit with layers of fruit, spice and sweetness.
The nose opens with gentle smoke alongside vanilla, cinnamon, treacle and ripe orchard fruit. On the palate, the whisky is oily and full-bodied, with creamy vanilla, baked fruit and warming spice joined by a steady thread of peat smoke.
The finish is long and lingering, with smoke, sweet fruit and oak spice remaining on the palate. Bottled at 58.3% ABV, this is a bold single cask expression that shows how well Annandale's peated spirit works with active STR maturation.
