A richly expressive Lowland single malt from Annandale Distillery, released as part of the unpeated Man O'Words range.
Distilled in 2017, this single cask whisky was matured in an STR cask, a shaved, toasted and re-charred Burgundy wine barrel designed to encourage greater interaction between spirit and oak. The result is a whisky with plenty of depth, fruit and warming spice while retaining Annandale's clean, unpeated character.
The nose opens with vanilla and wood spice, followed by raisins and ripe orchard fruit. On the palate, the whisky is oily and well-rounded, with layers of sweetness, fruit and oak spice developing alongside a rich, full texture.
The finish is long, warming and satisfying, with lingering fruit, vanilla and spice. Bottled at natural cask strength of 59.3% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring, this is a characterful single cask expression showcasing the influence of active STR maturation.
