Bottled for Fèis Ìle 2023, this 1998 Bunnahabhain was initially matured in American Oak casks, and was finished for several years in first-fill Manzanilla sherry casks. The Manzanilla casks were selected for the coastal salinity they impart, a nod to the distillery's maritime history.
When Bunnahabhain first opened, it was isolated from the rest of the island and had to do all importing and exporting by boat via the distillery pier. It wasn't until 1960 that a road was built. The period of time when the sea was the only route is key to the distillery's history.
