Kilchoman 11 Year Old Rockside 100% Islay 46% 70cl

Machir Bay is one of three core releases from Islay distillery Kilchoman. It is a vatting of whiskies primarily matured in bourbon casks, with a small portion of sherry cask matured malt also present.

It can be argued that Kilchoman have set the standard of success that all new independent distilleries strive for. Established in 2005 by Anthony Wills, it was the first new distillery on Islay in over a century. Built around a farm, Kilchoman has the capacity to carry out all aspects of production on site, including growing and malting barley, maturation and bottling.

Tasting Notes

Staff Tasting Notes

Nose – Sweet citrus fused with clean heavy peat, shrimps, charcoal, buttery marshmallows and popcorn.

Palate – Medium weight, an elegant oily texture with a stony saltiness. More dry and earthy smoke after a while. Incredibly well balanced and subtle despite powerful smoke.

Finish – Clean, more brine and peat. Very pleasant with lemon and other citrus notes.

Comments – Stunning whisky, so easy to drink due to its clean, heavily peated style and accurately demonstates Kilchoman's house spirit style showing us why this is a distillery to adore.

Nose – Soft cooked fruits, strong peaty aromas and citrus.

Palate – Mixed fruits, vanilla and an intense sweetness. A long, lingering finish.
