The third release in Laphroaig's limited Elements series came about as a result of a fire in their kiln. 'Aren't kilns supposed to be on fire?', I hear you ask. Well yes, but normally Laphroaig burn their peat at a relatively low temperature to 'cold smoke' their malted barley.
However on this occasion, due to the unexpected fire, the peat in the kiln burned for longer and at a higher temperature. The resulting malt was distilled into the spirit now bottled as Elements 3.0, which contains toasted coffee and chocolate notes alongside classic smokiness.
